Before we dive into this conceptual and narrative cuts/transitions let's begin by defining what's edit cuts are;

Edit cuts are instantaneous directory from shot to shot or from one scene to another depicting display actions on screen. However to effectively make use of this narrative and conceptual CUTS, understanding each with purpose to serve is vital 

BASIC OR HARD CUTS

Basic or hard cuts are instantaneous transitions from shot to shot without any emphasis, most cuts between a shot then a reverse shot and then back to short. These are basic cuts with no emphasis as the move viewers from shot to shot. SHOT-cut-REVERSE SHOT-cut-BACK TO SHOT 1 til end of scene

J&L CUTS

The J-cuts and L-cuts are audio/Visual directory transitions primarily by drawing audios or videos of scenes into or before another.

The J-CUT is when the sound/audio of a scene is heard before the scene proper in other words when the video trails the audio

L-CUT is when the sound/audio of a scene still transit over to the next scene when is not showing anymore in other words when the audio trails the video. Moving from scene to scene can be most times  disruptive to view, overlapping videos and audios helps bridge the gap for smooth transitions

CUT IN

Cut-ins are referred to as insert shots, cuts from a shot into a closer element in the Same shot is what CUT-INS are all about. For example a Character holding a mobile phone then CUT-IN Closer to the mobile phone

JUMP CUTS

Jump cuts are attention providing cuts with shocking directory transitions from shots to shots with emphasis.. best cuts for action and fights with specific shots details

MATCH CUTS

Match cuts takes visual, narrative, symbolic compositions, generating great seamless flow transition them into different frames.

CUT AWAY

Cutaways are technically directory transitions that move viewers from place/time to emphasize something very important on live. Flashbacks are often Structured around cutaways
